SRES-520 : Still Just a Bill

Senate Resolution 520 is a resolution submitted by Mr. Thune on December 1, 2025, in the 119th Congress. The resolution aims to streamline the confirmation process in the Senate by authorizing the en bloc consideration of a large number of nominations on the Executive Calendar. En bloc consideration allows the Senate to consider and vote on multiple nominations at once, rather than individually, which can save time and expedite the confirmation process. The nominations included in this resolution span various government positions, including:

  • Assistant Secretaries and Under Secretaries in several departments (Labor, Homeland Security, Defense, Navy, Housing and Urban Development, Treasury, Commerce, State, Agriculture, and Air Force)
  • General Counsels for various departments and agencies (Department of Homeland Security, Department of the Navy, National Labor Relations Board, Department of the Army, and Department of the Air Force)
  • Directors and Inspectors General for different agencies (Director of Operational Test and Evaluation, Director of National Drug Control Policy, Inspectors General for Small Business Administration, Department of Labor, Department of Defense, Department of Health and Human Services, and Department of Agriculture)
  • United States Attorneys for multiple districts across several states
  • Members of various boards and authorities (National Labor Relations Board, Tennessee Valley Authority, Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, Surface Transportation Board)
  • Ambassadors to various countries (Republic of South Africa, Kingdom of Spain, Principality of Andorra, People's Republic of Bangladesh)
  • Other high-ranking officials (Administrator of General Services, Deputy United States Trade Representative, Chief Agricultural Negotiator, and others)

The resolution, if agreed to, would allow the Senate to vote on all these nominations as a single package, rather than holding individual votes for each one.
