S-1204 : Still Just a Bill

The Gold Star and Surviving Spouse Career Services Act (S. 1204) amends title 38, United States Code, to expand eligibility for services under the Disabled Veterans' Outreach Program.

Specifically, this Act:

  • Extends the services provided by the Disabled Veterans' Outreach Program to include "eligible persons" in addition to "eligible veterans."
  • Defines "eligible person" as:
    • Any spouse described in section 4101(5) of title 38, United States Code (which generally pertains to spouses of veterans with service-connected disabilities or those who died from such disabilities).
    • The spouse of any person who died while serving as a member of the Armed Forces (commonly known as Gold Star spouses).
  • Removes the term "non-veteran-related" from a provision of the program, which may broaden the scope of job openings or services considered.
