HR-6456 : Still Just a Bill

H.R. 6456, titled "To require the Secretary of Veterans Affairs to disinter the remains of Fernando V. Cota from Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, Texas, and for other purposes," mandates the following:

• The Secretary of Veterans Affairs shall disinter the remains of Fernando V. Cota from Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, Texas, within one year of the bill's enactment.
• Prior to disinterment, the Secretary must notify the next of kin of Fernando V. Cota.
• After disinterment, the remains shall either be:
  • Relinquished to the notified next of kin.
  • If the next of kin does not respond to the notification, the Secretary shall arrange for an appropriate disposition of the remains.
