HR-1909 : Still Just a Bill

The "Preventing Maternal Deaths Reauthorization Act of 2025" (H.R. 1909) aims to reduce maternal mortality by:

• Reauthorizing support for State-based maternal mortality review committees. This includes ensuring representation from relevant clinical specialties like obstetricians and gynecologists.
• Improving the quality of death records by coordinating with death certifiers to amend cause-of-death information, when necessary.
• Directing the Secretary of Health and Human Services, through the CDC, to disseminate best practices on maternal mortality and morbidity prevention to hospitals, State professional societies, and perinatal quality collaboratives at least once per fiscal year. These best practices should align with other Federal maternal health programs.
• Extending funding for these initiatives by authorizing $100,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2025 through 2029.
