HR-1110 : Still Just a Bill

The "Grazing for Wildfire Risk Reduction Act," also known as H.R. 1110, directs the Secretary of Agriculture, through the Chief of the U.S. Forest Service, to develop and implement a strategy to increase the use of livestock grazing as a method for reducing wildfire risk. This will be done in coordination with those who hold permits to graze livestock on Federal land. The strategy will include:

  • Completing environmental reviews to allow grazing on vacant grazing allotments during droughts, wildfires, or other natural disasters that disrupt grazing on already permitted allotments.
  • Using targeted grazing.
  • Increasing the use of temporary permits to reduce fuels and invasive annual grasses.
  • Increasing the use of grazing as a post-fire recovery and restoration strategy, where appropriate.
  • Using all applicable authorities under the law.
