S-3447 : Still Just a Bill


The Pregnant and Postpartum Women Treatment Reauthorization Act, also known as S.3447, seeks to reauthorize and amend Section 508 of the Public Health Service Act, which supports residential treatment programs for pregnant and postpartum women. The proposed changes include:

  • Replacing "health services" with "health care services" in subsection (d)(11)(C).
  • Adding a requirement in subsection (g) for applicants to provide a plan describing how they will provide services and allowing the plan to include outreach to women disproportionately impacted by maternal substance use disorder.
  • Increasing the authorized funding in subsection (s) from $29,931,000 for each of fiscal years 2019 through 2023 to $38,931,000 for each of fiscal years 2024 through 2028.
