HR-8564 : Still Just a Bill

H.R. 8564, the "Elevating Biotechnology Threats Reporting Act," requires specific parts of the intelligence community to submit reports to congressional intelligence committees about biotechnology threats. These reports are due by June 30, 2025, and must include:

• Any shortcomings that hinder the element's ability to gather and analyze intelligence on biotechnology threats.
• A description of how the intelligence community shares information and supports other federal departments, foreign governments, private industry, and academic institutions regarding these threats.
• An evaluation of how the intelligence community consults with biotechnology and related experts.

The covered elements of the intelligence community include the Central Intelligence Agency, the Defense Intelligence Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the National Security Agency, and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
