HR-6737 : Still Just a Bill


The Air Force Future Force Design Act of 2023 (H.R. 6737) mandates the Secretary of the Air Force to develop a comprehensive force design for both the Air Force and the Space Force, projecting through the year 2050. This design will address several key elements:

  • Concepts, Capabilities, and Structure: Defining the necessary components to ensure effective execution of core functions in alignment with the National Defense Strategy and the National Military Strategy.
  • Force Structure: Developing capabilities, including platforms and systems, at the appropriate capacity to address challenges outlined in national strategies.
  • Force Composition: Focusing on recruitment, human capital development, effective distribution of forces, and policies that enhance career flexibility across all force components.
  • Organizational Design: Exploring potential models to improve agility and operational effectiveness within the Air Force and Space Force.
  • Other Relevant Matters: Addressing any additional factors deemed relevant by the Secretary of the Air Force.
The Secretary of the Air Force is required to complete the force design by August 31, 2024. Within 60 days of completion, a summary must be submitted to the congressional defense committees, along with a briefing on the design.
