HR-6537 : Still Just a Bill

H.R. 6537, also known as the REWARD Experience Act of 2023, allows hiring managers at military medical facilities to waive certain work experience requirements for nurses applying for positions at these facilities if the nurse:

  • Is currently a nurse or practical nurse in the Department of Defense, or was one for at least a year.
  • Obtained a Bachelor's or graduate degree from an accredited nursing program after starting their work with the Department of Defense.
If a hiring manager waives a work experience requirement, they must certify to the Director of the Office of Personnel Management that the applicant meets all other qualification standards for the position.
