HR-6187 : Still Just a Bill


The Defense Spending Oversight Act of 2024, also known as H.R. 6187, mandates the Inspector General of the Department of Defense to submit an annual report to Congress and the Comptroller General of the United States. This report will include:

  • A description of the Department of Defense budget.
  • The total amount and dollar value of oversight investigations into fraud, waste, and abuse conducted by the Department of Defense Office of Inspector General and the Offices of Inspector General of each of the military departments.
  • Statistical tables showing:
    • The total number and dollar value of oversight investigations completed and pending, categorized by type.
    • The priority assigned to each type of oversight investigation.
    • The duration of each type of oversight investigation, from the date of receipt of a qualified incurred cost submission and from the date the oversight investigation begins.
    • The aggregate cost of performing oversight investigations, categorized by type.
    • The total number and dollar value of oversight investigations pending for over one year, including the fiscal year in which the qualified submission was received, categorized by type.
  • A summary of recommendations to improve the oversight investigation process.
  • Any other relevant matters the Inspector General deems appropriate.
The report will be made publicly available.
