Protecting against Opioid Prescription-abuse during Prenatal Year Study Act or the POPPY Study Act

This bill requires the Department of Health and Human Services to submit a report to Congress that includes details regarding:

  • opioid prescribing practices for pregnant women,
  • recommendations for identifying and reducing opioid misuse during pregnancy,
  • prescription opioid use and misuse during pregnancy in urban and rural areas,
  • the use of non-opioid pain management practices in place of prescription opioids during pregnancy,
  • guidelines encouraging the use of non-opioid pain management practices during pregnancy when safe and effective, and
  • recommendations for increasing public awareness and education regarding opioid use disorder in pregnancy.
